Start with the narrow official claim

The official Steam page says offline progression generates gold. That verifies the feature category. It does not verify an offline rate, cap, minimum absence, maximum eligible duration, rounding rule, or interaction with every mode.

Keep this distinction visible when comparing an observation. A measured value describes that test condition; it does not become a universal rule.

Run a controlled offline check

Use a short reproducible procedure:

  1. Record the game build and platform.
  2. Confirm which save is active.
  3. Record the visible gold and relevant progression state.
  4. Close the game normally.
  5. Record the start and return times with timezone.
  6. Reopen on the same account and device.
  7. Record the displayed offline result and new gold.
  8. Repeat once before reporting a pattern.

Do not buy upgrades, switch devices, edit the save, or change Steam accounts during the same test. Those changes introduce another explanation.

The progression guide explains how offline gold fits the economy layer. The upgrade priority guide explains why a larger currency total does not by itself identify the next useful purchase.

Check save state before checking arithmetic

A surprising result may come from a different save state rather than the offline system. The official Demo retirement announcement says the old save is compatible with the full game, needs no special transfer, and survives uninstalling the Demo. The official store also lists Steam Cloud.

On Windows, the developer identified %APPDATA%/OrcIncremental as the save folder. Back it up before troubleshooting. Then check:

  • Was the same Steam account used?
  • Did another device play or synchronize after the recorded start?
  • Did the game close normally?
  • Did the loaded progress match the recorded before state?
  • Did a Demo and full-game transition occur between measurements?

Use the save FAQ for the official continuity statement. The staged Steam Cloud guide and save location page will hold detailed platform checks later.

Report the symptom without inventing a rule

A useful report says: build, platform, before value, elapsed time, returned value, displayed offline message, and whether a repeat matched. It can then be compared with another test under the same conditions.

Avoid statements such as "the rate is fixed" or "the cap is exactly" unless an official source publishes the rule or a broad controlled dataset supports a clearly labeled community finding. This page contains neither in the August 28 snapshot.

If the loaded save does not match the before state, stop the arithmetic test. Resolve the save discrepancy first through the known issues checklist. Mixing the two problems creates a false offline-gain claim.

Offline testing mistakes

  • Leaving the game running and calling the result offline.
  • Comparing two different builds or devices without noting it.
  • Ignoring a Steam Cloud sync conflict.
  • Testing immediately after changing the active save.
  • Publishing one observation as a universal rate.
  • Inferring a cap because one return produced less gold than expected.
  • Treating an unpublished formula as established fact.

The safe conclusion remains small: official support for offline gold is verified, while the numeric rules are Not verified yet.

Frequently asked questions

Does Orc Incremental generate offline gold?
The official Steam page says that offline progression generates gold. This verifies the feature category, but not a rate, duration cap, eligibility rule, or formula.
What is the offline gold rate or cap?
Not verified yet. The checked official sources do not publish an offline rate or cap. Record your build and controlled before-and-after values if you are testing behavior.
Can Steam Cloud change an offline-gain diagnosis?
It can complicate the observation if a different save state is synchronized. Confirm the active save, keep a backup, and change only one timing or platform variable per test.
